For those of you who attend Yosimar's reading on Thursday, I'm wondering what your reactions were? Post your thoughts!

  1. I already know his work and have hear several of his poems in different ocations. My reactions to Yosimar's reading this time was a bit different. he has open himself more to the public, he is not ashame or embarrased like he was back in highschool when we use to go to LCPA.
The content of his poems is heavely charged with lots of words that are really powerful, they carry lots of emotions which express his feelings about everything specially the unequality, unfairness, and unhuman treatment that brown two spirit boy have to live in their daily lifes.

  2. The poems that Yosimar performed/talk at NHU are like Andres P. said, are powerful, because he talks about the issues that affect brown people and the struggles that Hispanics go thru in their daily life. He shows everyone that its not easy to be in the shoes of Hispanics. One of the struggles is racism and we are no longer in the 1960's anymore, its 2009. Like him, every time I travel, they search me when I go thru security in the airport.
It was different than what I expected because he was not reading the poems, he was performing them. He really writes great poems and the other person that writes great and was always competing in NHU/LCPA poetry contests with him was Cecilia Hernandez.
